Do infant car seats float?

I would like to find out if my car ever landed in the water, would the infant carrier float. I live in South Florida and there are canals all over the place.

    1. If it is properly secured, it shouldn’t move at all, so even if it floats, it shouldn’t be free to do so

    2. Unless you have a convertible, it would be trapped in the car

    3. If it did float, there’s a good chance it would do so upside down, or at least have the potential to.

So it really shouldn’t matter whether it can float or not because either way, you would need to get to your baby and hold him/her, not trust the carrier to keep them safe at that point.

But for what it’s worth, I highly doubt they float.

If it is properly installed in the car, then it will stay in same spot in the car as it was before the crash. If it is able to separate from the part of the car to which it is mounted, then it is installed wrong and is very dangerous.

If your car landed in water, you’ve got bigger problems than if your car seat will float. Unless you’re driving a convertible with the top down, and the infant seat unstrapped, I doubt if it will float.

I’ll have to test it out in my pool! But I don’t think it will float, specially not with a child in it. And if it is installed properly it will not move from where it buckled in, so even if it did float it wouldn’t do any good.
