Does anyone have the Britax Decathlon convertible car seat?

I just bought it and it comes with extra padding that you can remove. Just wondering how long you used the padding for? My son is 5 1/2 months and we wanted to either keep the padding or take it out before installing it in the car. Our baby is asleep for the night so we can't test it out.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, fitting him in it is how you have to do it to know. The padding isn’t required unless his shoulders are still really far below the bottom slots. For rear facing, Britax requires the infants shoulders to be above the bottom slots. Most 5 month olds have no problem meeting this, however. The head cushioning serves to help keep baby’s head from flopping around. If he already has good head control – can lift his head easily, and sits up on his own, he will be fine without it, though it can help keep him in position when he sleeps.

Its not required to use or to be taken out at any specific age. Its all about how your specific child fits in the seat. Read the manual, that should help.

Here’s the exact same question, asked about the Britax boulevard, which is the same seat as Decathalon (same shell) just different features, both seats are base off the Marathon.
