We are a group of 2 families planning to visit Germany / Swiss / Nethers by road. We have plans for renting a car and driving across. We have 2 kids 11 and 6 years old. The other family has 2 yrs old kid. Is that a must to have a kids seat for the kids? If so, Is there an age limit for the kids to have baby seats?

Is this allowed to travel in a 5 seater car? (4 adults + 3 kids as said above).

Thanks in advance.

My baby is now six weeks old. She is happy and healthy in every way except she gets mild colic that we have successfully managed with simethicone drops and carrying and loving her.

When she is in her car seat and awake she is wailing...

I can find no reason for her to be so upset. She is fed, dry, and the temperature is fine. I have a 10 year old who also rides in the back seat so she tells me about the temperature and also manages the sun shade that came with the seat so that the sun isn't in the babies eyes.

Some things that I have thought might be the source of her distress is the fact that she is restrained; the position that she is sitting in (which is the prescribed position but still maybe uncomfortable); that she has already had bad experiences with having to cry in there, or shear boredom.

I don't believe in the nonsense of letting them cry it out but some journeys have to be made so sometimes there is nothing I can do.
She also loves high stimulation that would normally upset a baby so I don't think it is motion sickness.

This high stimulation is one of the best thing for her colic! We not only walk but when I just have to sit (had a C-section) I carefully and gently roll her in my arms. I did this with my 10 year too so they survive it.

But my ten year old loved her car seat... of course we got rid of that years ago!

I have a Pontiac Grand Am and the back seat of this car slants to the back. I have 2 different carseats. One is a Baby Trend which got replaced by a Graco because the BT sucked. Anyway, when I put the base in the car and strap it in it fits in great. My problem runs when I put the carseat on top of the base. The seat sits upright. So much that the little orange bubble is showing. I feel like my daughter is sitting up in her carseat. In the manual it says that it us unsafe for the carseat to have orange in that bubble in case of an accident it could harm her very badly. I had someone reccommend that i roll up a small blanket or towel under the base so that the carseat will fit in ther properly. Is this safe to do? Will it affect the safety of the seat? Is it safer to let her just be sitting all the way up with the orange bubble showing, or to roll the towel/blanket under there?

I have the base positioned all the way on the most reclined position and it still sits her up right because of the slanted seat.

we are going on vacation with family; we are all travelling at diff times 2 meet up there---hub works 2nd shift; we will be going 4-5 hrs by car....ok, we can leave at night after hub comes in, get there and sleep while fam watches baby, or go the next am...she will prob sleep if we leave at night, and we may have 2 stop less, but obviously, a lot of businesses on the way will be closed if we need to stop...any thoughts?
also, she still fits in her infant seat, but we have her a new britax blvd; which she hasn't tried yet...which do u think would be more comfy for her, assuming she will be sleeping mostly...if we go at night

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3029003

this is it if u don't know what i am talking about.....i think it reclines, but i don't know how much....
advice? we haven't had any long car rides since she's been born....thx

My 6mo old baby boy is in a convertible car seat right now but will outgrow the height guidelines for rear-facing before he is a year old. In our state they are to be rear-facing until 1yr and 20lbs. Would you turn him forward facing after he exceeds the guidelines or would it be better to keep him rear-facing just a little while longer?

Or does anyone know a car seat that can be rear-facing with extremely high height guidelines?
He is 6mo and is at least 32in long already the manual says it only goes up to 36in rear-facing. It's the Maxi-Cosi priori. His head is already really close to the top of the seat.

Are the new evenflo's better then the older ones, because I hated those.
