how are car seats made (not baby seats)?

every search i have done for "car seat" comes back with seats for babies. im looking for the actual seat that one would sit in to drive. my car come with "racing" buckets stock, but those just arent good enough. im good with my hands and thought about turning this into a project. i want to modify my stock seat to give a more race look to it.

i will start with the passenger seat so if i screw up there is no problem.

i wanted to add some larger side bolsters with more padding and possibly adding slots for a racing harness. then stitch a new cover on top. i just dont know how a seat is assembled underneath the cloth. i want to know that i can do this before i start ripping the seat apart. does anyone know of a website that has some pics of how a seat is assembled? i would like to visually assess it myself.

The frame is steel welded together. The side bolster, hip/thigh support, etc is also steel bend to shape and welded onto frame.

Then you have springs, they are flat wire type springs in most seats

Then padding is then put over the frame and springs.

The cloth is made kinda like a slip on car seat cover you can buy but from thicker cloth and a tighter fit. Its 2 pc. One for the whole back of seat and one for the whole bottom of seat.

They get pulled over the frame and foam.

Once in place, they are hooked to the frame with whats called hog rings. Hog rings are sorta like a U shaped nail or tack.

The hog ring gets poked through the cored lined edge of cloth, placed round wire on frame and bend with hog ring pilers around that metal and back through cloth

One seat probbly has 100 or more hog rings

There are dozens of tv shows and web sites that give you an idea of how the seat is assembled. Try, Overhaulin, they offer episodes that you can watch. You could also check, Powerblock, they have a few different shows that may help.
I know that the seat has a main frame, some type of springs, foam padding, and a cover that is generally secured to the frame with hog rings. Try looking up, bucket seats.
    Hope this helps. Christopher
