How do I know I got a suitable car seat for my particular child?

I asked this question earlier but all I got was advice about safety features, when to face back or front and other carseats that I wasn't interested in. I know about these things, I just want to know how someone can tell they have the perfect seat for their baby. We don't want a convertible, we want an infant seat. We bought a carseat, new/up to date w/ safety etc but the baby is uncomfortable in it. So I went searching for a better seat. I got the PegPreggo Prima Vaggio 30/30 (30lbs/30inch restrictions) and it looks great. Seems suitable. we brought it home and sat the baby in it. She seemed comfortable and sat in it for awhile as we cooked. Some say to wait until the car ride, but other than that how do I know it's "the one" (for lack of better terms lol)?????

Whichever one fits your car, fits your child, and will be used correctly 100% of the time. That’s the seat for you. If your baby is comfortable in it, and I would definitely take a 20 minute drive before deciding this, and it fits easily into your vehicle and budget, then you’re good to go.

Realize though, that no matter the infant seat, they do not last very long before they are outgrown, and then you will need to purchase a convertible car seat. Also, the new infant seats that go to 30lbs (like the one you purchased and the other you asked about in another question) are great for those of us with big babies, average sized babies who actually fit in them to 12 months may not LIKE being in them at 7,8,9, months and beyond, because they are SO reclined. They have to be that reclined for newborns, but older babies can sit a little straighter up (between 30-45degrees instead of the strict 45 degrees for newborns) and they like being a little straighter up. You do not have that option with an infant seat.

BTW , the jury is still out on the seat you purchased. the Keyfit30 isn’t really recommended b/c it is the exact same seat as the keyfit22, just tested to higher limits. So most babies won’t actually fit to 30lbs. the Peg Perego 2008 SIP 30/30 is still so new that we haven’t gotten the word yet on whether it is like the keyfits, where its just the same seat tested higher, or like the Graco SafeSeat1, where its a completely different seat that really WILL accommodate a 30lbs baby.

any of the graco snug ride carseats are great! they are too expensive and they have good saftey ratings and are easy to carry and my kids slept better in them then there own beds!

That can be a trial and error situation. I have six children and never had one ( Infant)" complain about any car seat. Just make sure the Child is Comfortable and Secure in the seat that you use. If he/she fusses, it probably will take him/her a little while to get Used to the Seat.

You baby is comfortable in it. I work in a hospital where we do car seat testing before the parents leave the hospital. We let the baby sit in the seat for about an hour, sometime right before they go to sleep, so they can get use to the seat. We also show the parents how to make the seat more comfortable. Like rolling recieving blankets long ways and putting them around the baby, that way they fell snuggled. I would tell you about tipping, but that goes with saftey. The seat you have is a good one. I hope this helps.

If your baby seems comfortable I would say it is suitable for her needs. I don’t think a car ride really matters. It is the same as sitting in your house. As long as it fits snug but not tight, she seems happy, and looks comfy I would say you have a winner!!!!!!

Ok I am going to let you in on a little secret almost all car seats except ones that are over 200 bucks for the seat only are made all the same. Also your infant should have enough padding in his or her diaper that it wont matter the car seat. You really need to realize that even though your baby might seem uncomfortable most infants dont like sitting in anything. Also you can’t let you child chose everything for you pick one and make them like it. If you start giving them everything they want from the start they will grow up expecting it.
