How do you get the cigarette smoke smell out of a baby car seat?
A friend of mine gave me her Britax car seat for my daughter. Problem is she smokes like a freight train and it's really smoky smelling. The thing is 1 yr old and in perfect condition other than that. I wouldn't normally buy a used car seat but I know her very well.
threenorns-i agree about the smoking...if i can't get the smell out i am not going to use the seat-it is a back-up seat for my husbands truck

Try washing the cover in a washing machine if the manufacturer allows that. (That’s what I do to clean our Evenflo but not sure about Britax). Then hang it up to dry for a week and wash the plastic part of the seat with a mild soap like dish soap if OK with the manufacturer and let that air out too. You might have to wash the cover a couple of times, but that should help a lot.
just wash it a couple times and it should be good. maybe even frabreze it too.
Check the tag, you should be able to take the car seat cover off and wash it. If you can’t, spray it with Febreeze.
If you can remove the fabric from the seat you could try running it through the wash using vinegar. If you not you might have to wait it out.
you throw it out and buy a new one. smoke residue soaks into fabric like you would not believe.
you might know her very well but i’m sorry, i have a very very low opinion of someone who smokes in a car that carries children. i don’t even let ppl hold a smoke full-arm’s-length out the window whether or not my child is in the car. heck, i refused a ride to a friend because he stunk of smoke – i said "you stink and the smell is making me sick so i don’t want you in my car". rude? yep!
