I got the Chicco Combo Travel Syste (the carseat fits into the stroller) and I got 2 extra bases, so that way my parents have one in my mom’s suv, and I have one in my car and my boyfriend has one for his truck. It works better that way because the car-seat fits into all the bases, and then just snaps right into the stroller!
i got a infant seat than bought an extra base to go with it for my husband’s car. most likely my son will only be riding in my car but we figured it was better to have a base in each car just in case.
Depends on what you need. And if you’d prefer things to be more convenient than having fewer costs. We bought our daughter a convertible car seat and was planning on just using that. But then we received a travel system as a gift. Our daughter grew out of the infant car seat in three months and now uses the convertible. The one good thing about the infant car seat though, was that we could carry her around it in when we went places. You can’t do that with the convertible car seat.
For an infant, I’d get two bases. There’s no reason the seat won’t just stay with the child.
Once your child gets bigger (and their pushchair no longer includes the car seat, or they are walking) then it’s much more convenient to have two seats.
We went with an infant seat because we spend a lot of time on the road… one of the challenges of living way far out of town. We did buy the Graco SafeSeat which is good to 30lbs and 32" so hopefully we won’t have to switch into a convertible too soon. Our town trips are long, too, as its groceries and doctor/dentist/etc visits, so having the infant seat should make it way easier for us to cart baby around and easier for baby because s/he will be able to sleep in the car seat even if we have to take the seat from the car into the store or office.
We didn’t get two bases, as the chance of baby having to ride in a vehicle other than our car is very small. Its also designed to be able to hook into a proper locking lap/shoulder type belt, so that means i can secure it safely in any of the in-laws’ vehicles.

We ordered a second base for my fiances vehicle. It’s way cheaper!
If you are getting an infant seat, then simply get two bases.
Car seats expire – and you won’t really need the convertible seat right off the bat – and only a few convertible seats actually fit a new born well.
just wait on the convertible…
