My carseat doesn't fit… Is this safe to do?
I have a Pontiac Grand Am and the back seat of this car slants to the back. I have 2 different carseats. One is a Baby Trend which got replaced by a Graco because the BT sucked. Anyway, when I put the base in the car and strap it in it fits in great. My problem runs when I put the carseat on top of the base. The seat sits upright. So much that the little orange bubble is showing. I feel like my daughter is sitting up in her carseat. In the manual it says that it us unsafe for the carseat to have orange in that bubble in case of an accident it could harm her very badly. I had someone reccommend that i roll up a small blanket or towel under the base so that the carseat will fit in ther properly. Is this safe to do? Will it affect the safety of the seat? Is it safer to let her just be sitting all the way up with the orange bubble showing, or to roll the towel/blanket under there?
I have the base positioned all the way on the most reclined position and it still sits her up right because of the slanted seat.

The orange bubble is indicating that the seat isn’t safe, so you will have to do something to fix that. Young babies can’t sit in the upright position, they don’t have the head control to hold their head up, that’s why they have the be laying down. Most user manuals actually recommend that if the seat doesn’t fit properly then put something under the base. I always used a small pillow until my son was forward facing. If your really unsure about it you can always go to your local fire department and ask them. But do figure something out, because riding with the orange showing in the little window means it’s unsafe.
Yes, it’s safe to do, the owner’s manual even recommends the same thing. Most cars don’t have a perfectly flat back seat, and this is necessary a lot of times. NO, it’s not safer to have the seat sitting too straight up, that’s why they have the level indicator.
Yes, that is fine to do. Just roll up a towel, blanket, or even use a pool noodle, and stick it under until the orange bubble is no longer visible.
We had the same problem, so we called our local fire department and they installed it. Most fire departments have programs like this.
I had a grand am when my oldest was a newborn, and yes it was HORRIBLE about the seat slanting. A friend (firefighter, registered to inspect car seat installations) recommended using a small pillow, blanket, or towel depending on how much correction was needed. We actually had to use a pillow in the Grand Am – folded over in half (it was a pretty flat pillow), placed at the front (where her feet where). As long as the car seat base is strapped in securely all the pillow did was adjust the placement of the seat.
Take it to your local police station…they’ll show you how to install it properly in your car
Yeah ask the fire or police station/department for professional help and advice
