Trying to fit 3 car seats in car. Can I use booster seats? Recommendations for rear/forward infant seat?
I have three kids in car seats. 37 & 35 pound 3 & 4 year olds and a 15 pound 6 month old. I am trying to fit all three in the back of my Honda Accord. Three convertible car seat / booster seat type seats will fit, but just barely – and the baby is too small for that seat. Two car seats and the infant carrier WILL NOT fit.
Can I put older kids in belt positioning booster seats – if so, which type – with back, without back? I need whichever is smaller (width wise) and safest.
Also – Is there a car seat I can put the infant in facing backwards right now, then turn forwards in a few months --- AND is less wide than the infant carrier?? I’d like to just get her one seat to use until she is ready for the big toddler / pre-school seat.
Thank You So Much!!!!

In most states, the legal requirement is 40 pounds to move to a booster seat. Children should be harnessed as long as possible. As someone said above, the sunshine kids radian is an excellent slimmer choice, although expensive.
While this isn’t an ideal solution, it is a viable possibility. Can you turn off your passenger side airbag? If you can’t find seats to fit three across, you could put the oldest/biggest kid in the front, in a harnessing seat, with the airbag off. I rarely would reccomend doing this, but if it is between having a 37 pounder in the backseat, in a booster, and having him harnessed in the front with no airbag, I’d pick the front. Just be sure to put the seat as far back as possible.
If you DO go with the booster option, high backs are always safer. I don’t even understand why backless ones are on the market.
Babies r us will let you take seats out to the parking lot to test how well they fit. I would go there, with no kids, and test every combination you can think of. As far as the infant carrier, most convertible seats are more narrow. Good luck, this is a tough situation.
At 30 lbs they can be put in a booster.
My friend has a infant carrier, a booster, and a regular front facing car seat in her camry.
Hope I helped!
i have a 5 yo 3yo and 8 month old. i have the 2 oldest in abooster seat that came from wal-mart like 28.00 a peice i think and i have the 8 mo in a regualr old car seat just in the reclined position most of those car seats are made for 5 lbs and over just face it backwards and recline it and the car saet i have for the baby actually came with 2 like pillows that can be removed one for the bottom to secure and fit him into it and the other one fits under his head and it stabalized his head when he was a baby. the only car seat i ever had for him due to the same problem you are having
you can fit 3 sunshine kids radian seats across the back seat of a car. they come in the 65 and 80–the weight limit they go up to. very safe seat, but a bit expensive. it will last though until she is ready for a booster.
After 4 years old it is recomended that the use a booster seat,
But it is NOT required.
My 4 year old doesn’t use a car seat,
+& I’ve pulled over numerous times[ nothing bad!].
Use a booster seat,
A car seat,
+& the four year old can fit in the middle.
Hope I helped!
