What is the best convertable car seat ofr my 22lb 6 month old?
He just outgrew his infant seat and we have to upgrade. Ive heard alot about the britax ones but what makes them so great? They are more expensive but is it worth it? I know the safest thing for my son is worth every penny but are there others on the market that are comparable for less? I want something that we dont have to replace until the booster seat. As far as transferring to different cars which one is better? Between my MILs car and ours. We cant afford to buy 2. And we dont have a big van or suv so space is kind of limited but our son is a big boy. What do you suggest? Im completely lost everytime I try to research them.

I have the Alpha Omega and I absolutely LOVE it. The padding is comfy for my little one and the crash test ratings were wonderful. Here’s the link to it. We also got it extremely cheap because although its almost $200 (which yes, to me is expensive even though its for my little guy) we waited until we had Babies R Us coupons for a percent off of the entire purchase and combined it with the coupon for money off of a carseat. You really would have to replace any convertible when you get to a booster seat, unless you get a 3 in 1 like the Alpha Omega, however that would still need to be replaced with another booster because car seats are good for 5 years and your child will need a booster longer than that.

it comes in several different colors/styles too!
If you’re looking to go cheaper, we also have the Graco Comfortspot and have been nothing but happy with it (for my fiance’s car). The padding is extremely comfortable and the size of it is good for a smaller car (he has a pontiac grand am). And its cheaper but still real safe.

Although with whatever you decide, you should get it installed by a cop because I swear no matter how hard you try you will never get it as tight as they do. We got it what we thought was tight and the cop made it so it didn’t even budge a half an inch!
Also, when you research look for safety ratings and also make sure it is side impact tested, if not don’t get it.
ETA: Also, from experience it is a pain in the butt to rethread straps- if you’re spending over $100 on a carseat I would go with one where you don’t have to rethread the harness straps. You can look at the feature, its on the Alpha Omega and it just makes life easier in the fall/winter when the baby might be wearing a coat one day but a sweater the next. My son’s snowsuit we’d have to move the straps up a level but just in a sweatshirt we didn’t. And it helped having the feature of just moving it with pressing these two buttons and sliding it up and down for the straps.
i cant help you with brand names. but the car seat i have is awesome because it reclines a little. so for the younger baby, like yours, can still fall asleep in it comfortably like his infant seat. and as the child gets older, you can sit it upright so he can look around. it also can be a rear facing which babies need to be until a certain weight, and then can be turned around for when he gets heavier.
i wouldnt spend the money on an expensive one because they are PRETTY MUCH all the same. i would recommend one that can recline and can be a rear and front facing carseat.
my 2 1/2 year old son got his around 6 months and still uses it. wish i could tell u the name.
I just moved Alyssa up to a convertable carseat I got a evenflo tribute 5. She is 15.2 lbs 24 inches tall and almost 6 months. She hasn’t outgrown her travel system carrier but she hates it since she could sit up without support now she wants to be sitting up all the time. Its great so far and it was very cheap $60 at walmart and adorable (abby style) I have a 2007 TL and it fits perfectly. I also read the Cosco convertable carseat was cheap and worked great.
The Britax Brand & Sunshine Kids really tend to be some of the better type of convertibles that allow for the most flexibility in size especially for those bigger infants. I personally have used both and found them to best for many reasons.
