When does a baby graduate from their first car seat? and whats the next car seat should i get? My 8 month old?

my 8 month old is 22 lbs and is tall don't know exaclty how tall he is but he's tall. The straps on his car seat wont expand anymore and he's just getting too big for it. What car seat should i go to now. He's not one yet so i cannot turn him around.

Next step is the convertible seat, which can be used rear facing until at least one year and 20 pounds, and then turned around to be forward facing.

I switched both of my kids from the little car seat carrier into a convertible car seat, rear facing, between 7 and 8 months. Not sure of their sizes, but they were heavy in there anyway!

You can get a convertible car seat. They can be used rear facing up to a certian height and then can be turned around and used that way :) The only difference between them and infant carriers is that they stay in the car when you take the baby out. Most convertibles can be used from any age in the rear facing position.

Technically everyone here will tell you after 1 year and 20 pounds but if your sons head comes over the top of your care seat carrier and his feet touch the seat its time for a convertible carseat.

You can get a convertible car seat that you can use rear facing and when he turns 1 you can turn it around. Look on babies r us website…

A convertible car-seat is what you need. He needs to be rear facing until 1 year AND 20lbs, and then can be turned around. Depending on the car-seat you get depends on how long it can be rear facing, and then how long it can be forward facing. There are many options.

I recommend a Britax. I have 3 Roundabouts. They go up to 35lbs rear-facing (I am pretty sure about this) and then 40lbs forward facing. It lasted my daughters until they were 4, and ready for a booster. They are easy to install, easy to use, comfy, and top safety ratings.

I’ve really liked my Britax Roundabout car seat. It’s rated highly and easy to use too. Kind of expensive but if you figure cost per use it’s good. This was recommended in Baby Bargains and that’s why I tried it. It can face back or forward.

Babies graduate from thier infant seat when they are usually 20lbs. (your seats instructions should tell you what the limit is for that seat, or its usually printed on the side of the seat). Unless your baby is 1 year old they should not be facing forward. I got a 3-in-1 seat after my son grew out of his first. It is still rear facing but you won’t have to buy another seat to forward face him. My 10month old hit 20lbs at month 7…. so we said goodbye to his baby seat a long time ago. Just make sure that the seat you get is also ok for forward facing so you don’t have to buy another when that time comes. Just remember that a baby has to be 20lbs AND 1 year old to forward face. Good luck! :)
